about me

Hello,
I'm Dr. Elena

With more than a decade of experience as a Gastroenterologist, my career has taken me from the UK to New Zealand, giving me the privilege of working across different healthcare systems and meeting thousands of patients. I graduated with distinction in medicine from UCL in 2002 and went on to obtain my MRCP UK. In 2014, I completed my specialist gastroenterology training in New Zealand. Throughout these years, one reality became impossible to ignore.

IBS was everywhere.
Not as a minor inconvenience, but as a condition that affected people’s ability to work, eat, sleep, travel, socialise, and feel like themselves. saw the same pattern again and again. People with IBS feeling dismissed, confused, unsupported, and alone. Trying to function in high-pressure jobs and busy lives while living with symptoms that were unpredictable and often invisible to others.

Working inside healthcare systems stretched by long waiting lists and short appointments, I often felt there was not enough time or space to support people with IBS in the way they truly needed. I could see the frustration on their faces. I could hear the worry in their stories. Many felt abandoned and unsure where to turn next.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic made this even more evident. Access became harder. Appointments became shorter. Education and support became limited. More people were left struggling with symptoms they did not fully understand, with little guidance on what genuinely works.

GPs were also under pressure, with limited time and resources to provide in-depth IBS care. Many lacked the training to support the psychological, behavioural, and lifestyle aspects of IBS management. This often left both patients and clinicians feeling frustrated and stuck.

At the same time, online information exploded. Much of it was contradictory or not evidence-based. People arrived overwhelmed from trying diet after diet, supplement after supplement, test after test, programme after programme. Many were left with severe restriction, fear of food, social withdrawal, and a growing sense that nothing would ever change.

These experiences stayed with me. They shaped the way I practise and the type of care I now offer.

My mission is to bridge the gap between what people with IBS need and what the current system can realistically provide. I created a service where patients are not rushed, not dismissed, and not left to manage this condition alone.

A space that brings together medical expertise, the gut brain connection, behavioural science, and emotional understanding to help people regain control of their lives.

Providing a solution

Recognising this gap in care, I’ve dedicated myself to finding effective solutions that go beyond traditional approaches. I understand the emotional burden, maladaptive thinking patterns, and avoidance behaviours that can create a vicious cycle for those living with IBS.  From research studies I have found that cognitive behavioural therapy and gut-directed hypnotherapy are significantly effective in addressing lots of the issues.

To better help you, I expanded my expertise beyond traditional gastroenterology, completing an evidence-based diploma combining cognitive behavioural therapy techniques and hypnotherapy, focusing on methods proven effective in addressing IBS symptoms.

My approach integrates:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Mindfulness Practices

This holistic method is tailored to your unique needs and symptoms, empowering you to take control of your condition and improve your quality of life.

My commitment to you

I’m here to listen to your story without judgment, to understand your challenges, and to work alongside you in transforming your IBS narrative from one of shame to one of empowerment and success.
